Drill Well Flushmount Casing
Polaris’ monitoring well flush-mount (also called a road box or well vault) is a heavy-duty, at-grade protective housing used to secure groundwater wells in high-traffic areas like parking lots, roads, or sidewalks. Unlike the “stick-up” monument, it is installed level with the ground surface to prevent tripping hazards and allow vehicles to drive directly over it.
Key Features & Components
Traffic Rating: Standard units are typically certified with an H-20 or HS-20 load rating, meaning they can support the weight of a full-sized truck (approx. 32,000 lbs per axle).
Watertight Seal: Designed with a gasket or O-ring between the lid and the rim to prevent surface water, oil, or chemicals from leaking into the well.
Locking Lid: Most feature recessed stainless steel bolts (hex or pentagon head) to secure the lid and prevent unauthorized tampering.
Materials:
Lid/Ring: Typically made of cast iron, ductile iron, or lightweight aluminum (which is rust-proof and won’t spark).
Skirt: A buried steel or HDPE cylinder (usually 6″ to 12″ deep) that extends from the surface down into the concrete seal to anchor the unit.
Identification: Lids are often embossed with standard markings like “MONITORING WELL — DO NOT FILL” to ensure they aren’t mistaken for fuel ports or water valves.
Locatability: Some aluminum models include an internal magnetic locator so the well can be found with a metal detector if it becomes buried by snow or dirt.
