Well PVC Pipe Expandable Plug

Polaris’ PVC expandable plug is a temporary, reusable mechanical device used to seal the inside of a pipe by expanding a rubber gasket against the pipe walls. It is commonly used for pressure testing, leak detection, or winterizing plumbing lines and is not for permanent installation.
Key Specifications and Features
Function: The primary function is to create a temporary, leak-free seal within a pipe to block flow or allow for pressure testing of the plumbing system.
Mechanism: Installation typically involves inserting the plug into the pipe end and then tightening a wing nut or T-handle on the top. This action compresses an internal rubber gasket, causing it to expand and seal tightly against the inner walls of the PVC pipe.
Material: The main components are generally a combination of durable, non-corrosive materials.
Gasket/Seal: Often made of natural rubber or neoprene rubber for a reliable seal.
Hardware: May include a nylon or plastic top plate and base, and a nylon or steel wing nut/handle.
Compatibility: Designed to fit into a nominal 2-inch diameter pipe, suitable for Schedule 40 PVC, ABS, and sometimes metal pipes.
Pressure Rating: These plugs are typically intended for low-pressure applications, such as testing up to around 30-50 feet of head pressure (approx. 13-22 PSI) or specific test pressures mentioned by the manufacturer.
Reusability: Unlike permanent solvent-cemented caps, an expandable plug can be easily installed and removed as needed for maintenance or future testing.
